Pangani & The Cosmic Explosion is a live trio rooted in psychedelic dub and tribal trance. Pangani (Sebastian Frisch) drives the set with live electronics, vocals and real-time effects. Montry Thalavattam plays hand percussion and sings, and Dougal Hallowes holds down dub bass and sitar.
The sets move between halftime and double time, with dub at the core: deep bass, space and echo. Pangani runs live effects on every input, so drums, voices and sitar are reshaped in real time, while generative visuals unfold alongside the music. A night starts slow, draws the room in, and then leaves the dancefloor to its own momentum.
Montry Thalavattam grew up in Kerala, India, and brings that musical background into the band, both on percussion and as a singer. Dougal Hallowes, originally from South Africa, found his bass style on tribal dancefloors and came to the sitar through love of the instrument. Each is a musician in his own right; together they play as one.
Pangani started in 2015 as a solo project and has since played more than 100 one-person live shows, including Boom, Ozora and Psy-Fi. The band premiered at Landjuweel 2025 and played Paradiso Amsterdam in December 2025.
